Despair can sometimes overshadow our lives. People are essentially good, but we always seem to hear about people on their worst day doing something terrible. WHY…why do we always find ourselves staring tragedy in the face? We lament that the world is the way it is. We try to make sense of things. We persevere to be an example of hope and goodness to those we love and we try to do what good we can to cancel out the bad. It seems that we are always struggling upstream against a current that tries to defeat us or make us give up. Even when things seem to be getting better we are dealt another blow…some new struggle. It never seems to make sense. Why doesn’t anything make sense?! Don’t give up! Don’t give in to it. Don’t despair. The power is in you to make things better!! And I’ll prove it to you.
Well, you can relax a little because you made it here, and the answer to the ultimate question of…what is the meaning of life…? It’s here. I promise you that it will make sense and that you will agree with me when you know what it is. It will take an investment of a little of your time, but it’s worth it.
Nothing makes sense because it’s not supposed to. Life as we know it…the reality of our existence was designed not to make sense on purpose. The human body is a ridiculously amazing machine in ways that we can’t aspire to comprehend…but it does have a plenitude of limitations built into it…again with purpose. The human mind was designed to be unable to perceive most of what exists and fail to comprehend most of what is possible.
The purpose of this life is to be subjected to all manner of stimuli and to cope all with a body that’s extremely fragile, a brain which is unable to comprehend 98% of what it’s exposed to, and a mind which in some respects operates at an animal level. How is one supposed to cope? Well, you can thrive with the most important part of each of us that I haven’t mentioned yet…our soul. Our soul or spirit can be indomitable, indestructible and totally incorruptible. It is the one tool every one of us has been provided that IS worthy of the cosmos that provides it, of which we are all a part.
All these things which don’t make sense and torture our minds and bodies…your spirit can be thrown all of that and more and can become all the stronger for it. Like ones’ wit that becomes a more powerful weapon the more it’s used, your soul can take it all and if you are willing to go along for that ride, you will emerge triumphant.
We live this life on earth as a way of proving ourselves worthy to re-join the universal consciousness that is life-kind. All life is linked. All human beings share part of the same spirit which is unique and ubiquitous at the same time: the infinite consciousness of the universe. This life we live in these ephemeral bodies is an existence that we are to prove that our spirits can cope with all the hell and fury that life can provide. Our objective is to draw on the good times, the love we have for others and the faith that we have in ourselves to keep us strong…our spirit, our soul, strong when facing the bad times, the people who hate us, the tests of our faith.
Each human being is the same; it doesn’t matter what part of the planet he or she is from. They are all the same. Say that again. ALL PEOPLE ARE THE SAME. Our experiences make us different, but those differences are insignificant unless we allow them to be otherwise. If we allow our differences to define our relationships then we will all be missing the objective…all people have the same worth and the same spirit. We all have the same objective and the only way to accomplish that goal is for us all to behave as one.
The meaning of life is…you are small. Revel in small and be big.
Yes that’s it…
Well not really.
Here it is. Nothing is supposed to make sense. Every single thing is a struggle because it’s supposed to be a struggle. Every single minute can seem like an assault on your ability to stay a good person and life is meant to be that way. It’s not a punishment. We are here on this proving ground of life to accept AND defy BEING SMALL, and rise above feeling small and choosing to be BIG in spite of it all.
NOT EASY…NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT…No, it’s not. There are more stars in the known universe than there are grains of sand on Earth. Most of those stars are smaller than our sun: Red Dwarf stars that you can’t even see in the night sky. They are small but they can be the most dangerous and destructive to life. We are small and our potential for self defeat and self blame can be terribly destructive to our lives and others…but you can’t allow that. You must be BIG.
You are small, but all life is linked and the sooner that you are able to learn to be a fully good, righteous, caring and empathetic individual who would give freely to ANY other person…the sooner you can return to the life-force that we are all from. The meaning of this life is to emulate the universal life force where all souls exist together as one consciousness. You can call it heaven if you want, but it’s not a place you get “let into” or kicked out of. There is no “oneness,” there is one universal consciousness, and it’s infinite in all directions. It’s like all of space is huge but nothing more than a fraction of a thought in the mind of the universal consciousness. You will be BIG when you return. While you’re here, when you learn to treat others as you would treat yourself, you will have learned that we are all one in spirit. The soul of every human being you meet is part of your soul and vice versa. We are separated by these bodies in this reality where “oneness” or individualism is necessary to separate us and to make our differences barriers. They are only barriers if we let them be. When you behave to others unselfishly you become BIG. It makes you feel good, it makes you strong in spirit and you will be helping a part of yourself…as we all come from that same universal consciousness.
Small doesn’t mean weak or stupid, or insignificant. We are small here and now, but now is a made-up idea, and our time on earth is a blink of an eye by the terms of the universal consciousness. Time is limited in our reality to allow us to function, but actual time as a concept and dimension is infinitely greater than anything we can conceive now.
When we die we return to the universal consciousness that “resides” in infinity. Basically, everyone goes to heaven when they die. EVERYONE goes to heaven. Yes, you too. Only you’re not staying long. Unless you figured it all out by the end of your life…you’re going back to try again. It will be your choice. You’ll want to. Yes it’s reincarnation. And no, you weren’t Joan of Arc or Napoleon or Alexander the Great in a former life. It’s like a simulation that you have to keep going at until you’re perfect at it. You may live a hundred lives. In actual reality numbers have no meaning nor time as we know it. We choose the lives we live. That means that no one is worthless, no one is a mistake and no one is better or worse than anyone else. Until you decide to live that…to want to live that, you’re going to return.
All religions sort of have it right and sort of have it wrong at the same time. As long as a religion teaches peace, love and forgiveness it can qualify as a legitimate religion. All the other whys and wherefores are wrapped in a candy shell with a million layers of culture underneath. Those rituals and customs and laws divide us because the details don’t matter.
Religions give us faith. Faith gives us strength. And God gives us hope. Those things make us BIG! So whatever religion gets you there get’s you there. And if you don’t believe in reincarnation that’s okay too. Think of this as the one life where you end up getting everything right and you have only heaven to look forward to. That’s fine…but then only you will know where you’re really going, and you will live your life in fear. DON’T BE AFRAID. I KNOW IT’S MUCH EASIER, BUT NO. We must all be BIG.
You don’t need to be part of any religion to be a good person. When I was a child I thought that anyone that wasn’t part of my religion was going to hell. That’s such a sad thing…don’t bother being friends with THEM because you won’t see them in heaven. Imagine how that one absurd assertion kept me ignorant and fearful for years. That is behavior worthy of HELL.
Oh, also, Hell doesn’t exist. Always choosing good because you’re afraid to go to hell doesn’t make you a good person. It makes you a good robot. That will only get you half way there. You have to choose good or sacrifice because you want to…not because of the promise of some reward to come… or some punishment.
In order to prove to yourself and the universal consciousness (or heaven or paradise) that you deserve to go back there…while you’re here you MUST always choose good automatically and behave unselfishly with the strangest of strangers. That’s not easy…but it’s not meant to be. You must realize that every struggle is a lesson just waiting to be learned and that’s hard…but it’s meant to be. You have to be willing to do the right thing even when there is no one to see it and know that there is no proof heaven exists and there may be no reward for ANYTHING you have ever done…and do the right thing despite that.. But that’s impossible??? Yes it is…and when you do it anyway…teeny tiny you will be BIG. You will be immense. You can go home.
Also, you are not qualified or charged with judging others. Nor are they qualified or charged with judging you. Revenge, hatred and violence are indeed small. Prove that those things are not worthy of you and be big. NOT EASY. Nothing worth doing is easy. The more important it is, the harder it is, and life can be dammed hard. It’s okay. It’s never too late to start.
Everything you do here matters. If you feel helpless…help someone. If you feel worthless find someone worse off than you and talk to them. You are small but you can still be powerful. It’s never too late to start along this path home. Love One Another. You can also choose good by inaction. If deciding not to do something results in less suffering, you owe it to yourself and everyone else to start with inaction. Just remember that all human beings need other human beings. Life just isn’t the same without them.
The point of it all is to learn that we are all small, but we are all small together. Each of us is but a single cell that together comprises the soul of all humankind which has it’s place as part of the universal consciousness.
You are small on purpose. Revel in it and celebrate, because although you are small here, here is only here, the rest of infinity lies ahead after this life and before it and at the same time. It is there that we are all immense.
Thank You for your kind attention.
Feel Better?
I mean how can you argue with that? It must be right…it is right.
Yes…it’s that simple.
Yeah…not simple. I’m still working at it. A life-time of working at it WILL get you there if you are willing to commit.
